Physical Education

Intent

At Cherry Grove Primary School, all pupils have the opportunity to participate in and enjoy a wide range of sports. They have chances to be competitive both individually and as a team, and to use their new skills in a range of extra-curricular clubs. Our pupils also take part in athletics, gymnastics and dance lessons, and are encouraged to achieve their own personal best performance. Pupils will develop the determination to win, but show graciousness in defeat.

Our Active Pupils

Knowledge: Our pupils will learn the rules of sport and correct sporting behaviour. Their experience of Physical Education results in a positive and informed attitude towards a healthy, active lifestyle.

Skills: Pupils will develop control, strength, power and speed in physically-demanding games. Pupils will have strong basic skills such as throwing and catching to enable them to access a wide range of sports.

Experiences: All pupils will participate in and enjoy a wide range of sports. Pupils will have opportunities to use their sporting skills in a range of extra-curricular clubs and through school teams and events such as The District Athletics Championships, Football and Netball teams. Children also attend inspirational sporting events throughout the year and meet inspirational sporting stars.

Curriculum Planning

Careful curriculum planning ensures that our pupils build on existing knowledge and skills over the course of their Cherry Grove learning journey. This leads to better understanding, knowledge retention and engagement.

Cherry Grove currently works with S4YC as our partner in delivering PE excellence for our pupils.

Coaches work to deliver lessons to pupils, support and work alongside school staff and work with a system of assessment that allows us to monitor knowledge and skills progression for pupils.
