History

Intent

Our history curriculum is designed to ignite children’s curiosity and fascination about Britain’s past and that of the wider world and be able to sequence these periods of time chronologically and recall the significance of individuals. We believe that history is not just about ‘retaining information’ and our vision is to help children gain the skills to think and reason like a historian and make meaningful links between their learning and beyond the classroom.

Our Historians

Knowledge: Our pupils will gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.

Skills: Pupils will be able to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.

Experiences: To help deepen children’s historical understanding and develop their love for history, we create exciting experiences which allow children to relive the era they are studying. Such experiences include, themed days, visitors ‘from the past’ coming into school, school trips, investigating artefacts and using drama.

Curriculum Planning

Careful curriculum planning ensures that our pupils build on existing knowledge and skills over the course of their Cherry Grove learning journey. This leads to better understanding, knowledge retention and engagement.
